Underground Structure Restoration System
Restore the original strength capacity of underground structures, such as vaults and manholes, and extend its useful for life for decades in under a week without disruption - backed by a 50-year warranty.
Underground Structure Restoration from Osmose is a composite based restoration system designed to significantly extend the service life of underground utility assets. The composite restoration method is typically installed in two to five days and eliminates the need for excavation, replacement, or extensive surface restoration. Designed specifically for underground utility environments, the system offers a range of safety and performance benefits. We provide turnkey execution including assessment, engineering integration, installation, and quality assurance across the United States and Canada (excluding California).

Before
The vault walls were crumbling, unsafe and falling debris could have caused damage to personnel working in the vault

After
Structural integrity restored with minimal disruption. Now the vault is able to support heavy loads and is safe to work in

Capitalized Cost and Time Efficiency
This system delivers fast, cost-efficient vault restoration with minimal disruption, on-site quality-controlled application, and compliance with regulatory standards — all without excavation.
- Cost-Efficient: 70% less expensive than a full vault replacement and qualifies as a capitalized investment under Federal Energy Regulation Commission (FERC) guidelines.
- Minimal Disruption: Requires minimal outage time to remove and reinstall cable. The vault can remain energized during the coating process.
- Time- Efficient: Restoration can be completed in 3-5 days, cured within 24 hours before re-racking and re-watering.
- No Excavation: Osmose crews perform work within the existing structure configuration, requiring zero excavation.

Reduced Risk!
This solution restores structural strength, protects against further degradation, enhances safety with fire and explosion resistance, and helps mitigate both public safety and reputational risks.
- Restored Strength: The system is stronger than the structures’ concrete, allowing structural strength to be restored to its originally designed capacity.
- Prevents Further Degradation: The systems forms a protective barrier inside the structure against oxygen and water.
- Fire Resistance: The topcoat is self-extinguishing and has been tested to UL94-V0 standards.
- Explosion Mitigation: Manhole explosions caused by falling ceiling concrete or other undetected risks in failing structures, create serious safety threats to public safety. This system addresses those risks.
Proven Technology
Engineered with proven materials and validated through expert partnership, this system restores structural strength, supports heavy loads, and has become a recognized standard across utilities nationwide.
- Proven Materials: Advanced composite system fills cracks/voids and adheres multiple layers of bidirectional fiberglass mesh to replace lost tensile strength.
- USC Partnership: The system was designed and engineered in partnership with world-renowned engineers at the University of Southern California, validating iterative development.
- Bond Strength: The bond between the base layer compound and the underlying vault is stronger than the concrete itself.
- Weight Accommodations: The vault is restored to its original capacity. Pulling eyes rated for loads up to 10k lbs can be installed.
- Utility Standard: This system has been adopted as a standard practice by utilities across the nation. References are available upon request.
- Guaranteed: The system is backed by a 50-year warranty against spalling and cracking
