Broadband Build Out and Make-Ready at Wisconsin Cooperative

Wisconsin is the heart of America’s Dairyland, but the long, picturesque stretches of pasture and hayfields that come with dairy farms pose big challenges to public utilities.

As the region’s energy supplier, Pierce Pepin Cooperative Services (PPCS) owned the infrastructure key to bringing this vital technology to its rural customers. CEO Nate Boettcher recognized that the co-op was in the best position to update the region’s infrastructure for the twenty-first century.

Taking his inspiration from the rural electrification efforts of the early 20th century, he led PPCS through the application process for federal and state broadband implementation grants.
