Life as a foreman

Ninety percent of Osmose field management began their careers as foremen. Our wood foremen play a vital role in assessing, safeguarding and restoring electric utility and telecommunication provider infrastructure.

Through this program, you will gain hands-on experience working alongside a tenured Foreman while developing leadership skills such as hiring, training, and supervising a field crew of one to three team members.

A clear path to your future career

Foreman apprentice level 1

You'll start out as a level 1 apprentice, where you have the opportunity to kickstart your career with Osmose. We don't expect you to know what you're doing straight away, all we're looking for is for you to demonstrate your skills in:

  • Map management
  • Hands on training on pole excavation, treatment application, overhead equipment identification and pole assessment
  • eLearning modules, courses and quizzes
  • Pass the Osmose safety, pesticide and pole assessment exams
  • Maintaining good attendance

Foreman apprentice level 2

After your level 1, you will progress to our level 2 apprentice program, where you will build on the skills learnt in level 1 and demonstrate your proficiency in what we've taught you. You will need to:

  • Continue your level 1 requirements
  • Pass the administration exams
  • Train others
  • Learn and show leadership skills
  • Get sign off from field management on your ability to train others and run your own crew

Osmose Foreman

Upon completing both level 1 & level 2 of our apprentice program, you'll be almost ready to start your career as an Osmose foreman. To do this we will evaluate your performance so far and you will need to:

  • Successfully complete apprentice level 1 & 2
  • Pass a final field evaluation or performance evaluation checklist
  • Show us how you plan to uphold safety, quality and production standards
  • Build on everything learn in level 1 & 2

Post Training

Once promoted from the training program, Foremen enjoy full-time, year-round stable work at the rate of $26/hour. Foremen may be required to travel extensively, but will also have the opportunity to work overtime and receive overtime pay, as well as earn weekly production bonuses.

Osmose Foremen are paid hourly based on a tiered scale that includes a base rate, conditional pay, and production bonuses*. This compensation plan provides opportunity for advancement within the Foreman role and rewards Foremen for consistent high performance. Several Foremen earn over $100,000 annually.

Compensation level is determined quarterly based on the previous six months performance. Corresponding level wages are paid in the form of conditional pay on productive hours only.
