In July, 2014 Osmose Utilities Services, Inc. partnered with the North American Wood Pole Council to develop and distribute two comprehensive benchmarking surveys to the U.S. utility industry. The first survey targeted Distribution Pole Purchasing and Disposal practices and was directed at utility Procurement/Supply Chain and Distribution Standards executives and engineers in the investor-owned, cooperative and municipal/governmental markets. The second survey focused on Distribution Pole Plant Management practices and was directed at the functional areas of Operations, Asset Management and Distribution Engineering. Overall, 430 responses were received from all geographic areas of the country representing IOU, cooperative and municipal systems. Given the quality and diversity of both the responses and respondents, the survey results provide an accurate and comprehensive picture of current practices in both subject areas. The results also establish a reference point for utility managers regarding their respective programs and practices relative to the industry as a whole. Based on the survey results, commentary is provided on what we consider to be the "best in class" practices as noted by the respondents in several of the content areas.
